Hartsholme Cricket Club hosted Wednesday nights SM Cricket UK Senior Cup Final between Hykeham and Blankney. Blankney were playing in their 9th midweek final since 1994, but only winners once, while Hykeham were playing in their first Senior Final since 2015. However, both clubs played in finals last season with Blankney losing the Senior Final to Old Lincolnians and Hykeham losing the Junior Final to Sturton.
Hykeham won the toss and decided to bowl first. Blankney started well and had 58 on the board before Wicket Keeper Callum Goddard snaffled the dangerous Dylan Garfoot off the bowling of Jed Humphries for 34. Partnerships continued to build between youngsters Kyle Thompson and Ollie Humphries before Humphries was out for 32. Wicket keeper batsman Brendan Laurenzi joined Thompson and another partnership was built before he departed for 36. Partnerships were the key to their innings of 205-4 from 16 x 8 ball overs, with the first partnership contributing 58, the second 63 and the 3rd partnership contributing 52. Thompson finished unbeaten on 85. His innings was a sensibly constructed innings mixing boundary hitting with a number of quickly run 1’s and 2’s.
5 bowlers were used by Hykeham with 20 year old opening bowler Michael Baker being the pick taking 2-29 from his allotted 5 overs.
In reply, Hykeham lost their 1st batsman at 17, before a 2nd wicket partnership of 67 was built between Captain Callum Goddard and Dan Mitchell. When Goddard was caught by keeper Brendan Laurenzi for 20, opener Mitchell continued to cut loose hitting the ball to all parts of Ashby Avenue. Unfortunately, when he was out bowled by the excellent Chris Miller for 68 the match was up and Hykeham closed out on 142-5 from their 16×8 ball overs. Miller was the pick of the bowlers taking 3-31 from his 5 over spell.
Blankney won by 63 runs to win the Senior Cup for the first since the Millenium. Please find enclosed the photo of winners Blankney CC, which was taken by Nikki Humphries after the Final.
24 hours earlier, Lindum CC hosted the 100th Albion Cup Final. This years final was raising money for Prostrate Cancer UK and was played between 2010 winners Lindum and 2014 winners Woodhall Spa.
Lindum batted first and made 133-4 from their 18 overs. Top scorers were Jack McLagan with 51, followed by Captain Rob Cook with 37 and opener Aidan Lockwood with 31. Tightest bowler for Woodhall was Harsh Vithana with 1-18 from his 4 overs.
In reply Woodhall Spa needed 7 from the last over to win. That equation came down to 2 from 2 balls and teenager Henry Wilson drove the ball for four as Woodhall got home by 4 wickets, with 1 ball remaining. Opener Harsha Vithana was unbeaten on 71 and there was also a breezy 30 off 19 balls from number 4 batsman Joe Irving.
For Lindum seamer Dan Taylor took 3-33, while spinner Ben Rolfs took 2-22.
