New Appointment – Womens & Girls Cricket Development Officer

We have welcomed a new member to the team this month, as Abbie Johnson begins her role as Women & Girls Development Officer to aptly coincide with Women’s Big Cricket Month. Here is a statement from Abbie:

‘Hello! I am Abbie Johnson, the newly appointed Women and Girls Development Officer for Lincolnshire Cricket. ‘Cricket is a game I have played since the age of 8, starting at Grimoldby CC many moons ago. During my junior playing years, I represented Lincolnshire at County Age Group level, as well as Louth CC. ‘Senior cricket has led me to captaincy of Louth Ladies, and Saturday club cricket, along with coaching the juniors at Louth.

‘I started playing cricket due to barriers I was facing in other sports, and whilst cricket has always been welcoming to me, it is essential it is an accessible sport for all. ‘Women and girl’s cricket is something I am deeply passionate about and understanding the barriers to participation for those that want to be involved in cricket in Lincolnshire is a crucial part of this role.

‘The opportunity this role presents me to promote women and girl’s participation within cricket, excites and motivates me to give everyone the opportunity to access cricket in Lincolnshire. ‘Increasing the participation of women and girls playing cricket across the age range is a major target of mine but increasing the number of female coaches, umpires and volunteers within the game is incredibly important for its future.

‘I hope to have a positive and progressive impact on women’s cricket and give everyone the opportunity to thrive. ‘I look forward to getting stuck in with my new role.’
